Rapid Response Team
A Critical Care Outreach team has been established successfully at Addenbrooke's for several years. However there has been recognition that the acuity of ward patients is increasing, and that there are delays in recognition and management of those who deteriorate. This has provided an exciting opportunity for the JVF ICU to provide a Trust-wide Rapid Response Team (RRT) consisting of an ICU Fellow, ICU Consultant and RRT nurse.
The RRT provide critical care support at a ward level, and ensures an experienced ICU trainee is available for initial stabilisation of all deteriorating patients. The aim is that earlier intervention will avert some ICU admissions and cardiac arrests. Other functions of the team include managing cardiac arrest calls, seeing ICU referrals from the emergency department and operating suite, and follow up of ICU discharges. A dedicated RRT Consultant is present from 0800-2000 daily, with cover provided by the JVF ICU on call Consultant overnight.
